Language shapes the human experience, from our first words to our last. It frames everything around us: from our news, safety and rights, to songs and stories around the holiday table. Sometimes, language is a matter of life and death.

Story

This festive season, Translators without Borders (TWB) are launching their Language is life appeal, which aims to raise $150,000 to help develop technology to improve human lives through language.

Language shapes the human experience, from our first words to our last. It frames everything around us: from daily news, safety and legal rights to celebrating with stories and songs around the Christmas table. Sometimes, language is a matter of life and death.

For millions of people worldwide, vital information is not available in their first or even second language, or a format they can access and understand. They’re left out, and offline. Imagine not understanding important vaccine information or a disaster safety message that could save your life. Where do you go for help when the internet doesn’t speak your language?

TWB is working to bridge that gap and build a world without language barriers for communities in crisis, but they need our support.
Language is life. Celebrate our shared humanity this Christmas by supporting STP and TWB to change lives using language.

How do we support this cause?

STP is encouraging all our staff, partners and friends to raise £750 by 20 December to support Translators without Borders through this Christmas fundraising appeal. We will top the final sum raised here (up to £75) up by 25%.

But that’s not all! If we reach the donation targets of £150, £300, £500 and £750, the members of our management team will each sing a famous ABBA song dressed as their favourite member of the legendary Swedish pop group.

£150 – STP’s Financial Controller Huyen Jones will sing Money, Money, Money.

£300 – STP’s IT Manager Adam Dahlström will sing Does Your Mother Know?

£500 – STP’s Executive Chairman Jesper Sandberg will sing Rock Me.

£750 – STP’s Managing Director Anu Carnegie-Brown will deliver her rendition of The Winner Takes It All.

Please help us support the important work of Translators without Borders!
