Story

Richard Arthur Stotter-Brooks peacefully passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning (30th January). He was nearly 83 years of age.

Richard (Pops) was an outstanding and hugely cherished husband to Elaine, father to Andrew, Timothy and Stuart, father in-law to Caroline, Silvia and Luke, and grandfather to Georgia, Harry, Oliver and Sofia. He was one of life’s true gentlemen… kind, thoughtful and sensitive with a brilliant sense of humour, and he had the ability to make anybody who met him feel at complete ease.

After overcoming prostate cancer a few years previously and suffering from the ongoing deterioration of his eyesight, Richard was eventually diagnosed with advanced throat cancer just before Christmas 2021. Before his first radiotherapy treatment was due to start in mid January, he was able to enjoy one last Christmas before being admitted to Poole Hospital in the new year with a previously undetected diabetes complication. Despite putting up a immense fight to regain his strength over 3 weeks, a time when he had daily visits from Elaine and their 3 sons, he became increasingly frail and tragically lost his personal health battle.

It goes without saying that we are devastated by our loss.. the rock of our family… but Richard’s spirit and love will live on through us all.
