Story
We are, Heather, Joanna, Leah and Sian and are taking on the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge to raise money for Maggie’s Manchester.
Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and the pandemic meant that she had to attend all of her appointment's alone, her surgery alone and then each subsequent treatment alone. Despite having a huge support network Covid meant that neither family or friends could be there for Heather in the way that they wanted.
Maggie’s were able to fill some of those important gaps. Maggie's is an incredible organisation who in such daunting times were able to offer a safe and calm space with a friendly face and a cup of tea when a deep breath was needed before the drive home after Heather's treatment. The importance of this support for Heather and for those who love her cannot be quantified.
During Heather's treatment and the pandemic walking was the only way we could get together and give each other that same deep breath, or loud scream as was required. Meeting for regular walks gave us all the space to share what was on our minds, laugh hysterically about our home schooling fails and just be an ear for each other.
Having walked around the various beautiful sights and reservoirs of Bolton we now want to take on a challenge that will push us all and help make a difference to the incredible charity that helped Heather so much.
Our challenge is to walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks which is 3 mountains in one day. We want to raise a minimum amount of £2400 which covers the cost of running Maggie's for 24hours. We want to make sure others get the same critical support given to Heather.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for donating to this incredible organisation.
Maggie's Manchester needs your support now more than ever. We are here supporting people with cancer and their families who are worried and anxious that their treatment plan might be changed and wondering what coronavirus means for them. We're working shoulder to shoulder with our NHS colleagues by providing a place to take a break and rest, as well as support to patients at a time when they need it most. We have one to one phone, skype, email and facetime support. Our online community, run by psychologists, cancer support specialists and benefits advisors, can also help with daily blogs on how to cope with self isolation or treatment changes. You can join our online kitchen table with others who are going through the same thing offering support. Everything we do depends on the kindness of our donors. We will always be there for people with cancer but we need you alongside us. Please do whatever you can to help by supporting us today.
