Story
As some of you will know, our great friend, Sarah Struthers passed away in July last year after a brave 6 year war against late diagnosed bowel cancer, at the tender age of 53. As is often the case, the best people get called away early and she was one of the best.
Her final weeks were spent at St. Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh who were simply fantastic in giving her and her children the care and support needed to face into her final days.
They are an organisation whose work is only possible through charitable giving and with so many events being cancelled this year, very little fundraising is happening and charities are suffering as a result.
I was going to do the Coast to Coast again, (with the aim to finish it this time to prove to Joss that it can be done when you are 50!) but that has been cancelled this year so instead, Roz Bruneau and I have decided to cycle from St Columba's Abbey on Iona to St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh to raise some funds in memory of Sarah who was cared for so well by the Hospice in her final days and weeks.
The total distance will be around 165 miles excluding two ferry trips and the plan is to start on Friday 11th September and do the trip across Mull and the two ferry journeys that afternoon and to then do the mainland stretch over the Saturday and Sunday. Approx 5200ft up and down as we cross from one side of Scotland to the other just via a different route to that originally planned.
Any support you feel able to give would be most generous and we would be very grateful for anything you felt you could do.
