Kate x
I was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer that had spread to my peritoneum in January 2017. The prognosis is super challenging, but 3 surgeries and 24 chemotherapy sessions later, my health is improving, I'm fighting hard and (most of the time!) I'm living life with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
I have two young kids and I know that them going through this would be a million times worse for our family than it happening to me.
Almost 4,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. That’s ten kids, every day
Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity, funding life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and protecting young lives through essential welfare programmes.
So, given that my ultra-marathon running adventures have been somewhat curtailed, I have spent the last few months writing an 18 poem anthology, inspired by the many positive aspects of my life post diagnosis. I'd like to think it's an evocative and uplifting read for anyone, not just those facing similar challenges. I would like to suggest a minimum donation of £15 for the book, but please feel free to give what you feel you can.
The book will also include an audio download of a selection of the poems that have been kindly and freely voiced by some hugely talented professional actors, courtesy of the agency Another Tongue (including the likes of Robert Glenister, David Morrissey, Meera Syal and Callum Turner).
Thanks to Another Tongue and my company iris worldwide (who have designed and produced 1,000 copies) everything but the distribution costs will go directly to Children With Cancer UK. This is a not for profit initiative.
And a final reminder ...
