Story
Oh no! Everybody hide, Tom's coming knocking again...
Oh yes you really mean. Dust off the coppers jar if needs be, no-one is safe.
This year's London Marathon is a poignant one for me, falling the day before the first anniversary of my mum's passing. I want to run in her memory and celebrate her life once again.
It's another opportunity to beat the drum, to hold the floor and shout about Scleroderma & Raynaud's UK (SRUK), to raise money and awareness - it's a way of uniting as many people as possible for a common cause.
As much as I love running, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad apprehensive about taking on 26.2 MILES! Ok breathe 1...2. But I have all the motivation I need and I want to make the most of this privileged position. SRUK put their faith in me and I want to do them justice.
Scleroderma & Raynaud's UK is a new charity formed in 2016 by the merger of the Raynaud's & Scleroderma Association (RSA) and the Scleroderma Society (mum suffered from both Scleroderma and Raynaud's for more than 30 years). Their vision is a world where no-one has their life limited by Scleroderma and Raynaud's. You can read more here: https://www.sruk.co.uk/about-us/about-sruk/
Mum was my greatest teacher. Much of what she taught she did so without saying a word. One of the ways in which she showed herself was how she took on the challenges in front of her and, albeit this is a test of a different kind, I want to show myself in a similar way and be a credit to her.
Thanks for all your support,
Tom
