Story
In January 2021, at aged 31 and just three months after giving birth to my first child, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Ewing sarcoma is a bone and soft tissue cancer most commonly affecting children, teenagers and young adults. There are fewer than 100 cases of Ewing sarcoma diagnosed in the UK and Ireland each year.
Fortunately I had a curative diagnosis, and following a gruelling 9 months of treatment, 14 rounds of chemotherapy, 28 sessions of radiotherapy and surgery, I am delighted to share that I am now in remission.
However this is not the case for many and more needs to be done to improve survival rates for sarcoma, and to find more effective treatment paths to get there.
There are around 100 different sub-types of known sarcoma. Sarcoma UK is a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
When my world was turned upside last year, the support team at Sarcoma UK helped my family and I get through the toughest year of our lives. I want to do all I can to ensure the charity can continue to do their brilliant work and continue to support others in the way they helped me.
I’m not yet 1 year post treatment, but I’m desperate to do something to give back to this amazing charity, and to the team that saved my life.
So on the 9th October, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon along with my husband, sister and brother in law.
We really do appreciate any donation you can make, it will make such a difference to this amazing charity.
Thank you so much
