Teesside Hospice Care Foundation, based in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, was established in 1982 to enhance the lives of local people suffering from any progressive life limiting illness such as advanced Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease or Heart Disease. The Hospice cares for over 3000 individuals each year living in the Teesside region. All services provided at THCF are free of charge to patients.

The Hospice works closely with local Acute Hospital Trusts, Primary Care Trusts, Macmillan Nurses, Community Nursing Teams and General Practitioners to take their speciallist palliative care services and expertise to patients, families and carers.

Their annual running costs are in excess of £2.1 million. This equates to £4100 that must be raised each and every day of the year. They only receive one third of their funding from the local NHS Trust. Therefore they are left to raise the remainder through events such as the Great North Run.
