Story

Updated on Feb 20th 2012 at 3:46 PM from the JustGiving API

Video will be uploaded later today, although you will probably need to watch it in horizontal motion (not the same I know) unless you can turn your screen as it was filmed virtually on a digital cam & I can't get it to rotate on programmes I've tried. Thanks again to everyone who has donated & those who have said they will still do so when funds permit.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Also my aloligies for deciding to do this & therefor setting up this page so late.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to participate in a (3-2-1) Bungee Jump, by my wonderful wife Val (Thank You).

Its just one of those things I want to do before the inevitable happenns (heres hoping the bungee dont snap, lol)

I have now decided to add to the pressure of completing the jump by deciding to try & raise as much cash as possible for The British Red Cross, a charity with which I have personally volunteered/worked with (although several years ago) & am looking at returning to as a First Aid Volunteer - you know the people Im talking about, you see them at almost every event throughout the UK. Those VOLUNTEERS are very highly trained & skilled, as well as being under severe pressure to keep their cool when their skills are needed. Next time you see these guys & gals at any event go over, say Hi (it costs nothing) & ask about the LIFESAVING WORK they give their time up for (you are most likely to find them to be very modest).

The British Red Cross does so much more than this though, despite many (probably the majority) people being unaware of this. So what else do they do as an organisation?

FIRST AID

1. First Aid Teaching & Training; General Public, Work Places (on or off site), Schools, Community Groups & anyone else thats interested - That should be ALL OF US.

2. Event Cover - This drastically reduces the strain put on the Ambulance Service & allows them to attend the most severe cases. The Red Cross has very strong ties with all Front Line Emergency Services throughout the UK & in many cases throughout the world, that truly is one MASSIVE responsibility for any organisation, let alone a charity.

3. Campaigns - Promoting first aid and road safety to young people in the UK because we think that every child should have the chance to learn how to protect themselves.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

The Red Cross responds to hundreds of UK emergencies every year. Whatever the incident – from major floods and earthquakes to house fires and transport accidents – trained volunteers are always on hand to help.

They also work closely with the emergency services and local authorities to support their work responding to crises.

1. Fire & Emergency Support Service (FESS) - Every year, hundreds of families and individuals suffer damage to their homes following a fire, flood or similar incident.

The Fire & Emergency Support Service (FESS), equipped with a specially adapted vehicle, respond around the clock to provide help when things go badly wrong. Crucially, volunteers are trained to provide emotional support, which can make a huge difference at such a distressing time.

2. Ambulance Service Support - The Red Cross offers regular support to ambulance services in the UK. Operating as an auxiliary to the public services.

HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE

1. Care at/in the home

2. Medical Equipment Loan

3. Skin Camouflage

4. Transport Service
