Three days, two nights on a remote island off the north coast of Wales in May. Sounds appealing, well, the kicker is it comes with only basic rations and a need to find and secure shelter. Then, no comms, no luxuries, nothing, nil, nadder ... just 14 colleagues and a common purpose to raise funds and awareness for Starting Blocks.
A Starting Block is the person, place or moment that inspired you to become who you are today. Not every young person has the opportunity or inspiration to unlock their potential and find their Starting Block in life.
For me, taking part in the Starting Blocks Challenge to help Dame Kelly Holmes Trust change what's possible for those young people who are facing challenges in their everyday lives is important. I am backing it up with volunteering in the programme at The ARK Academy, Greenwich, London. This matters.
The Trust works with world-class athletes who use their experience at the highest levels of sport to mentor young people. Over the next ten years the Trust aims to support 10,000 young people through programmes designed to improve their wellbeing, help them build healthy relationships and establish the confidence, self-esteem and resilience they need to achieve in education, work and life.
I am still somewhat unsure if volunteered, or was "volunteered", however, either way, please help me raise funds or awareness of this challenge to support the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
