Story
I have always loved boxing. It's the greatest of sports. It is as simple as this. You go and get ready, I will go and get ready. We will meet in the ring with nobody there to help either of us; and we will see who is the best.
Some people play football. Some people play golf, some people play tennis, some people play snooker......
But nobody plays boxing.
I would watch the big fights when I was a kid with my dad. I remember watching Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns and my own favourite "Marvellous" Marvin Hagler sitting with him. I meant so much then when I found that my own son would watch our sport with me. A new generation of fighters, Canelo, Mayweather, AJ, Fury but a father and son watching together. It felt as though a family tradition was being continued and passed on.
My dad died of cancer in 2020. The last few days were particularly distressing for him and for his family to watch him suffer as he did. I am doing this for many reasons, one of which is to raise money for Cancer Research UK who may be able to help stop this from happening to another person. To prevent another family watch as this illness ravages someone they love.
If you would like to donate to this page to help CRUK help as many people as they can then please do so. Every pound raised will make a tangible difference to someone. Your generosity will be so gratefully appreciated.
