We enable people with mental health issues to engage with creative activities

Story

In September I will be cycling approximately 950 miles from John O Groats to Land’s End on my Brompton bicycle. My sister (Wendy) and her husband (Simon) will also be cycling. We will be carrying our own luggage and will not have a support vehicle. This seemed like a good opportunity to raise money for a charity dear to my heart.

I am a trustee of BrightSparks Arts in Mental Health. They provide a vital service for people with mental health difficulties in Leicestershire and Rutland, bringing purpose, joy, social opportunities and wellbeing through various artistic projects including painting, sculpture, music, poetry, drama and comedy.

Their website is below:

As a consultant psychiatrist I have seen first hand how people with mental health problems have benefited from this charity and continue to do so. Recovery is about much more than medication and formal therapy. It is about feeling part of something, meeting others and establishing social networks, and spending time in activities that can bring enjoyment and build confidence. Please help me in raising money that will go directly into creative projects for people who are often isolated and find it difficult to find friends and purposeful activity.

I’ll do the leg work, please do the wallet work.

Thank you,

Steve
