Story
This September I am doing a physical challenge for SCIA to raise funds for NeuroMoves; our specialised exercise therapy program that changes lives for people living with a spinal cord injury or neurological condition.
The program helps over 700 people a year to achieve health, mobility and independence goals. Outcomes range from stimulating dormant muscles, strengthening limbs, bearing weight, moving or walking further and with better balance and perhaps even taking a few steps unassisted.
All those things that most of us take for granted that, when achieved, are so profound and often life changing for the people that we help.
The funds raised will buy urgently needed specialised equipment for our 11 NeuroMoves sites across Australia and also fund scholarships for people who are unfunded to access and participate in the very program that is so pivotal to their ongoing health and wellbeing.
I am so thankful that physically I can do whatever I want. What better way to support those who would love to have that physical capability than to undertake a physical challenge.
So during September I aim to complete 4 marathons (168 km) of kayaking on the Georges River and 5 marathons (210 km) of walking/hiking around Sutherland Shire and the Royal National Park within 60 hours.
All tracked on Strava so you can be sure I am not fudging it!! Check in periodically to track and/or share my progress and give me some encouragement!!
I would ask you to reflect on the daily challenges for people with physical disability. Imagine your life being changed in an instant. Think of the courage and resilience it would take to rebuild your broken body as well as reshape your future because many of the goals and dreams you previously had were no longer possible.
Reflect also on how privileged most of us are to be able to do whatever we want physically without limitation or a second thought.
Please support this great cause by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. Give as little or as much as you like, every donation will make a real difference to people who need your help.
The more people that know about SCIA and NeuroMoves, the greater our impact, so please also spread the word with your friends, family and contacts by using the 'Share' button.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
