Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I used my 50th birthday as an occasion to raise more funds for the Christie. For the second year I entered the cold murky waters of Salford to take part in the British Gas Great swim series. My planned Windermere swim on 23rd June was cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions. Swimmers who entered the Windermere event on Sunday 24th were able to swim as the weather conditions improved considerably on the Sunday.
Kerrie-Anne Payne - our gold medal hopeful in the ladies 10k openwater at London 2012 took part in Windermere swim along with other olympians from other countries - the ladies elite race was extremely exciting to watch with 4 women battling right to the very final stroke.
I finished my Salford swim in a personal best time of 30mins 56 seconds so the target for next year must be a sub 30 minute mile!
My overall finish position was 732nd out of 2,518 finishers and I came 53rd in the males aged 50-54 category.
Please view the photos on this page - I was honoured to meet former Olympian Duncan Goodhew after my swim - one of my school boy swimming heros!!
