Story
I've been preparing for this brutal Midnight Mountain Marathon (MMM) for 5 months. Having never run a marathon before, I thought it would be fun to set a new challenge. Something with a little bite to it. So, I came across the MMM which sets off on June 4th 2022.
Set in the Brecon Beacons, this trail run will involve a 886m ascent in Pen y Fan. Known as the ‘Fan Dance’, this mountain is used as part of selection process for the British Special Forces. It’ll take me through
forests, over streams, and past waterfalls. One difference in this marathon is that it’ll start at 5.30 pm, meaning the midnight it the cut off time to beat.
Why donate for Matthew's Friends? Matthew's Friends provided excellent information regarding a keto diet to assist with my epilepsy a few years ago, I feel it's time to provide them some money in return.
What training is involved? I'm currently training 3 to 4 times a week, covering 5-6 miles in the first three runs, lots of hill incline runs around Rutland Water Peninsula, then up to 23 miles on Sunday's.
Do you think you'll achieve it? Absolutely. I'm hoping my MMM run will set the tone for other individuals who still suffer from drug resistant epilepsy. I still have complex partials and tonic clonics, but if I can achieve this - I hope it'll encourage for of the epilepsy community to go out tackle their own personal challenges.
Running has assisted my epilepsy signficantly...by encouraging me to sleep...a lot!
