Story
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not naturally a runner, but I have been training since December (apart from a short injury break) and will try to run 24km which is 15 miles, i.e. two miles longer than a half marathon, for an extremely worthy cause. Organised by St George's School, on Saturday 27th April we will be running round Harpenden, to Luton and back, and then some more, covering 10 metres for every soldier killed or wounded in action in Afghanistan.
The Army Benevolent Fund (The Soldiers' Charity) provides help and support for wounded personnel and their families and for those who have lost a loved one. The servicemen and families they care for really do deserve our support. To add to the poignancy of the event, each participant has a nominated soldier. I have the privilege of running in memory of Major Sean Birchall of the 1st Batallion Welsh Guards who died, aged 33, on patrol in Afghanistan in June 2009, leaving a wife and an 18 month old son. His obituary is here: #mce_temp_url#
At the same event Helen, Laura (14), Nathaniel (12) and Lily (10) will together be runnning the 4km course for the same charity.
Please dig deep and donate now. I would be thrilled to meet or exceed my fundraising target. Thank you.
