Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 2nd October I will be taking part in my first half marathon. I'm partly doing it as I needed a bit of motivation to get fit, but mainly I am doing it in memory of my brother Paul who passed away two years ago.
Paul lived with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) for 43 years but never let it hold him back and achieved more than was every expected of him. CF is a life-limiting condition caused by a faulty gene that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of cells. Currently there is no cure.
However thanks to the work of CF Trust and other organisations over 50% of people living with the condition in the UK will live to at least 41. They also do a lot of work supporting sufferers and their families with treatment and grants. Children born with CF these days will have a much greater chance of living a full life and I want to help.
I looked up to Paul and always knew how much he meant to me and my family. But when he passed away I was blown away by the kind words people had about him, from colleagues to friends, it was amazing and very comforting. I would encourage anyone to read his remembering page on Just Giving. The message that stands out for me is from an anonymous donator:
"I spoke to Paul once and he had a profound affect on me. I am deeply saddened at his passing. Thoughts are with his family."
