Story
Graham and I are running the London Marathon on April 22nd 2018. We are aiming to raise over £5,000 for Brain Research UK to go towards vital research in areas close to our hearts.
Lewis - I’ll be running the Marathon in memory of my inspirational little sister Nikki, who fought a long and hard battle with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, Medulloblastoma, at the young age of just 26. Despite her amazing strength the cancer could not be stopped and she passed away in 2012. Nikki was, and still is, an inspiration to me. She lived life to the full, and no challenge was too big for her. She was the most supportive and loving sister you could hope for, and she made everyone she surrounded herself with feel like they could achieve anything. She’ll be with me in my thoughts both on the big day and throughout my training, driving me to run my absolute best and make her proud.
Graham – I have always wanted to run my hometown marathon but have been waiting for the right moment and charity. I have close family members who have been affected by brain conditions and I am running to raise money for and awareness of the Brain Research UK. My amazing Mum, Faith, led a varied life and dedicated a lot to her family so that my brothers and I could have so much. At the age of 53 she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and lived with this for over ten years before her passing in 2009. She was very upset at first but the treatment she received helped immensely to keep her life as normal as possible and I hope she is proud of me for doing this.
As we have both found through experience, research into brain tumours is drastically underfunded, with just 1% of the national spend on cancer research allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Research UK are funding some ground-breaking research into the treatment of brain tumours, on top of funding research into 14 other conditions affecting the brain, some of which members of our families are battling with right now. Please help us raise a boat load of cash to support this great charity!
