Story
Thank you for taking your time to visit this page... owed to a remarkable man who was so dearly loved by so many - Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend - John Joy.
After many months of battling Pancreatic Cancer, John passed away on the evening of Monday 28th March surrounded by his wife, Pat and children, Steve & Carolyn. He passed away peacefully and in his sleep as he had wanted.
His final weeks were made all the more comfortable by all the staff, nurses and doctors at St Raphael's Hospice. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he was treated with dignity, respect and love during his final weeks at the Hospice.
St Raphael's Hospice relies heavily on charity fundraising, donations and legacies and depends on the generosity of the local community to continue providing a high quality of care. It costs nearly £80,000 a week to keep the Hospice running. More than 80% of income is spent on direct patient care, including medical and nursing salaries. They receive a grant of about 25% of the those costs from the NHS but the rest must be raised from donations and fundraising activities.
We would like to ensure that others are able to benefit from the love and support that St Raphael's offered both John and the family and therefore would request that no floral tributes are made but any tributes are made via St Raphael's Hospice either through this page or directly. This was John's wish.
