My Name is Steven Holland and I am veteran serving 10 years in the British Army with The 22 Cheshire Regiment and 1 Mercian. I deployed on front line operation to Afghanistan, Iraq and Northern Ireland.
A couple of weeks ago I was nominated to do the 22 push up challenge, 22 push ups in 22 consecutive days to raise awareness for combat veterans suffering with PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ).
Statistics show that 22 veterans A DAY across the world commit suicide down to this disorder which in my eyes is an outrageous figure.
I can relate to this as 4 of my Comrades who I had the pleasure to serve with have added to these statistics by killing themselves as they simply couldn't cope with the horrors and constant daily battle they had with this disorder
When I was nominated I was not aware of these statistics and was very shocked when I actually looked into it. At that point I realised I wanted to do more to help.
I got in touch with Charlotte Harvey at Combat Stress and put forward my idea to create an event to do some fundraising in support of this excellent charity and they have been very helpful.
On the 17th Sept the 22 combat challenge will take place at R A FITNESS CENTRE in Winnington, Northwich, Cheshire. The challenge will be made up of 22 consecutive BodyWeight, Dumbbells, & Olympic Bar exercises so when the challenge is completed approximately 253 exercises would be done
The plan is to raise as much money as possible to donate to Combat Stress so they can help veterans with their daily battles. These men & Women at one point accepted to pay the ultimate sacrifice to lay down their life for our country.
