Story
As some of you may or may not know, our daughter Poppy had a bit of a rough start to life and ended up in Southampton general hospital in the specialised NICU on life support. Those of you who now know Poppy will she know she is more than fine now and is a right character! During the worst two weeks of both Mine and Jems life RMHC made our life that little bit easier, by providing us a place to stay at Southampton hospital whilst Poppy was in the NICU down there. They provide not only a place to stay but, a place to step away from the hospital setting, prepare and cook some food, and try and relax/ de-stress; along with providing a shoulder to lean on, and ears to talk to. Not only do they provide all this, they provide it all for free, and only ask for you to donate your key deposit of a small £25. obviously they rely heavily on donations to keep people housed during there times of needs; sometimes for over a year!!!
Having turned 30 in December just gone, I thought why not... I am signed up to run the Southampton Half marathon; on April 24th; and have every hope of gaining a place to run the London marathon in october for RMHC! Obviously even if I am not successful in getting a place for London, all donations will go towards the Southampton half effort!
Those of you who know me well, know I am not a runner in any shape or form, so I'm already into training to get myself in shape.
My aim is to do the half in 2hr 15 mins, and the full marathon in sub 5 hours...
Any donation you can make, be it £1 or more, will go a huge way to help this amazing charity keep going, and supporting other families going through there worst nightmare! it costs roughly £25 a night to house a family for one night!
A bit more about the charity:
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital. Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain. We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
