Story

The Caldecott Foundation: Who we are and what we do

For more than a century as a registered charity, the Caldecott Foundation has been caring from some of the UK's most vulnerable children. Our young people have been through some harrowing experiences and need time and a safe environment to help them come to terms with their traumatic childhood. We focus on giving them an individualised programme of recovery. This includes providing a caring and supportive family-style home as well as a range of therapies and emotional support. So often too, our children's schooling has been severely disrupted and so an individualised educational programme is also a key part of the holistic care that we offer.

Our work in the East Midlands

We now have three homes in Nottinghamshire which together form the East Midlands hub of our services. We have created a comfortable, safe and homely environment where our young people can be nurtured and cared for by our professional and dedicated staff so that they can gradually rebuild their lives. However, one of the key facilities that is still required is to create and equip a special therapy room which is separate from their home, but is located in the grounds of the largest of our houses. This will be a space where treatments and assessments by our therapy team can take place away from home and school and where they find a calm and relaxed atmosphere in which to benefit most from their sessions.

We need to raise £10,000 for this purpose and started fundraising towards it by entering a team of young people and staff for the Santa Run in Lincoln just before Christmas. This event raised some £500, so we are thrilled that RAF Waddington 14 Squadron are putting in a team for this year’s ‘Race to the Stones’ to be held in July this year. Thank you so much to the whole team on behalf of us all at Caldecott for helping us to provide better facilities for young people who have been through a really rough time. Good luck to you all!
