Story
Hi Everyone
I have decided to give myself an insentive to get fit and take part in the Great London Swim.
I will be raising money for seafarers and the donation target for me to race is £50 but exceeding that target would be great. I am representing the London University Royal Naval Unit which is why it is fitting to support the seafarers UK Charity because of the support they give to the maritime community, below is some information about what the charity does:
As an island nation, we are extremely reliant on our seafarers - 95% of UK trade is transported by sea, and our Royal Navy plays a key role in allowing this trade to continue unhindered. Our seafarers face serious risks while at sea and on return to shore often have to deal issues like poverty and debt, feelings of isolation after a life at sea, relationship break-ups, ill health and serious injury, homelessness, depression and bereavement.
Seafarers UK is the leading charity for seafarers in need, supporting seafarers and their dependents from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Merchant Navy and fishing fleets in times of difficulty and hardship. Seafarers UK act as an "umbrella" charity for the maritime welfare sector. It is in a unique position of being able to assess where the need for help is greatest and to support those charities that tackle that need. These are often small local charities or specific projects which would not otherwise be able to continue providing vital services. The needs of our maritime communities are constantly changing and, as a grant-giving organisation, Seafarers UK ensures through a rigorous application process that grants truly go to meet the greatest need.
Many thanks for taking your time to look at my page, as you can see, this is for a great cause, and any donations are greatfully recieved.
