Story
2020 has been tough on inner city kids. COVID-19, school closures, economic calamity and racial strife all have affected them disproportionately.
Founded in 1996, Wings for Kids serves children in impoverished areas attending Title 1 schools through after school programs in their schools. Wings for Kids also partners with organizations like Boy and Girls Clubs and provides training and resources to educators nationwide. As a board member and long-time supporter, I see the results of the programs first hand. In these times, our kids need our Wings for Kids programs now more than ever before! To learn all about us, check out this great video that explains What is Wings for Kids?
Wings for Kids believes (and has data to back these beliefs) that teaching kids social emotional skills gives them the tools they need to succeed in school, stay in school, and thrive in life. When our kids learn these lessons in daily after school programs, try new firsts (like chess or lacrosse), and experience new places (like trips to colleges or museums) with college-aged mentors who look like they do, they begin to see new possibilities for themselves. They also get snacks, dinner and a safe ride home to their doorstep.
