Story
For some men this subject is taboo. This is why, following my own personal battle, I want to raise both awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer Research.
In April last year, at the age of 46, my nightmare began. With absolutely no symptoms, or family history, and following a chance routine medical examination, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Prostate Cancer. Life for me and my family then appeared to stand still whilst I underwent numerous scans and biopsies to check the extent of its spread and to determine the most appropriate treatment. The operation itself did not come without significant side effects, and although I was incredibly grateful to be deemed suitable for this option, I also found these side effects difficult to deal with both physically and emotionally. I am still on a personal journey, but thankfully due to the incredible research and support to men in my position, I class myself to be one of the fortunate ones.
It is for this reason that my son, Sam and I, are climbing Snowdonia on a very poignant Father's Day weekend to raise money for further research into this devastating desease. Research is the only way we can turn this hope into a reality, which is why we are fundraising for world-class, pioneering scientists, to add years to life and life to years for people with the disease.
1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. And this is doubled to 1 in 4 for black men. Prostate Cancer Research is determined to provide a better future than this. We need breakthrough treatments and better quality of care.
Please know that every donation, will be so very much appreciated by so many and will go towards the continued fight against Prostate Cancer.
Thank you for supporting us!
