Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Starting at 6am on Wednesday 13th April, I have 120 hours (5 days) to complete a 200 mile run across South Wales. The route has 30,187 feet of climbing. No repetition or long out and backs, just one monstrous run across the trails and mountains of South Wales, along Offa’s Dyke, traversing the Beacons Way before catching the Heart Of Wales Line on to the Wales Coast Path and finish line at Worm’s Head.
Why I hear you ask? Well, thats all about the charity. In January 2020 I joined PRIME CYRMU as a Trustee as I strongly believed in what they do. We help 'mature individuals' which means 40 years of age and above, become 'economically independent'. In other words return to work, maybe even start a business.
But often it starts with basics! Confidence, skills, social skills and communication. We run a mentoring programme across the whole of Wales, let's face it the geography and the mature demographic means this is no easy task. We take internet and email communication for granted in the world of work these days, our smart phone never out of our hands. But often our customers at PRIME CYMRU, don't have a computer, or a smart phone. How do you look for jobs if you don't know how to use the internet? Seriously, how!?
We are funded through grants and RFP's from other organisations and foundations across Wales, but we also need to raise £200,000 this year to continue to do the great work we do.
This run is my small contribution to that fundraising (I'm also on the fundraising sub-committee, but you know what I mean!).
Please can I ask you to share even just a few £ to help us help others become 'economically independent' across Wales.
Most of you will know I like to run Ultra marathons. I stopped asking for donations to charities as it felt wrong when it is my hobby. But this is different, this is SCARY! I don't know if this is doable, but I'm going to try and your donations will help keep me going when times get tough, and trust me - with no more than 12 hours sleep over 5 days and a weather forecast which I wish I hadn't seen - things are definitely going to get tough!
Thank you! Wish me luck!
