Story
As you may or may not know, I've just signed up for Velo Birmingham, a 100-mile cycle ride starting in Birmingham city centre and heading out along closed roads through Quinton, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Kidderminster and eventually Bromyard before heading back to the city via Belbroughton, Clent, Romsley and Frankley. This in itself will be a big achievement for me personally but more importantly I've decided to put all this effort in for a very worthy cause.
Mary Andrews (my Mother-in-law) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in September 2009 and in the years since then this awful condition has had a devastating effect on Mary, her family and her friends.
We have watched her personality slowly ebb away in the most awful way and the frustration of knowing that there is still no cure or even effective prevention for this condition has been difficult for everyone to come to terms with....
That's where you 'orrible lot come in... I would really appreciate it if everyone could sponsor me whatever they can afford. I'm going to be doing the hard work (and if it doesn't sound hard, I did a thirty mile ride this morning and can barely walk at the moment!) so all I need you guys to do is put your hands in your pockets.
If you know someone with Alzheimer's or Dementia, you'll know how important it is that we find a cure as quickly as possible. If you don't know anyone who has been affected by this disease then you can count yourself as one of the lucky few but the only way of ensuring that you never have to deal with it is if we all do everything we can to put an end to it once and for all.
I'm useless at getting sponsorship, so please don't make me visit every one of you personally. I have a £400 target because that's what was required to guarantee my place on the ride but I'd really like to smash that and make a properly worthwhile contribution....
