Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm riding the Sussex Weald Challenge, organised by St Catherines on 19 May, with lil' Dave (my younger brother who's not so little now!) and would like to get to the £1000 mark and more if I can. It's the equivalent of Paris - Roubaix but without the cobbles, significantly shorter and there won't be roads lined with spectators shouting ALLEZ, ALLEZ. Apart from this it's exactly the same!
THE SERIOUS BIT!
I'm raising money for St. Catherines as the nurses and doctors were simply amazing when Dad had to stay with them during his battle against lung cancer. It was a battle that he didn't win unfortunately but the love and care given to him by all the staff really helped him and they helped my mum, my brother David and me.
Here's a little insight for those that never met my dad Stewart, I'm sorry you didn't meet him, he was a true legend! He loved a practical joke, he always looked on the bright side of life and wanted to always make people happy. He would always put others before himself, right up until the end, and do anything for his friends and family. Dad was the most generous person in the world, he was always the first person to offer you a drink at the bar and find out how you're doing. He was always the last person to leave the party, he loved a pint of bitter and a game of darts, he loved football and followed Three Bridges around the county without fail and was also one of 4 people who support Fulham! He loved my mum and he adored his 2 grand daughters and loved a cuddle with them.
Dad was old school. Even at the hospice he would never let on that he was feeling the pain he was in, he'd crack jokes and make you laugh and deflect the mood to keep things happy. He was a true legend!
St Catherines rely on donations to look after the people that stay with them. It's expensive, they need £5 million a year to be able to provide the services and care that they are famous for. I too used the services they offer. Bereavement care is an integral part of their ethos and it really helped me with the loss of my lovely dad. It got me through a really low period of my life. Those that know me might find that difficult to believe! I still think about him every day.......
So please dig deep and donate now.
