Participant's (including players from our amputee team along with players from our female and male pan disability teams) and staff from Everton in the Community's Disability Programme will be taking part in this year's 'If You Know Your History 5K' Fun Run.
Everton in the Community’s (EitC) Disability Programme was the first targeted programme that Everton in the Community delivered to deal with a social issue in the local community and has now been running successfully for over 20 years.
Research by Sport England shows that disabled people do not have the same sports and physical opportunities as their non-disabled peers enjoy, something which EitC’s Disability Programme has looked to combat since its launch in 2000.
EitC's Disability Programme runs regular sessions within special educational schools across Merseyside to support the development of physical along with social and communication skills through physical education. We also run daily sessions at Alder Hey Children's hospital to support the recovery of sick and disabled children, as well as provide parents with some important respite. EitC's Disability Programme delivers weekly community multi sport sessions for adults with disabilities to help promote healthy and active lifestyles. Finally, our EitC Disability Programme also offers competitive opportunities for 13 pan-disability and specific impairment teams for children and adults that are available to both males and females. Resulting from this, over 40 players have been selected to represent their country.
By engaging with disabled people through several different ways, the projects looks to empower disabled people into taking an active part in everyday mainstream society.
Please help support our work, and our participant's who are training hard to complete the IYKYH run by donating through our just giving page, any donations to EitC will be greatly appreciated and will help towards continuing to provide these opportunities and to empower disabled people.
