Story
Three Generations walk 97 mile in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Research and Relief Fund.
A Cramlington family pledges sponsorship to MSRRF to provide funds to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis and support those diagnosed with the condition and their families.
Sheila Jameson, wife of Joe, mother of Ian and Dianne, mother in law of Anne and Steve, grandmother of Liam, Emma, David and Catherine was diagnosed with MS in 1977.
A former nurse, Sheila had to give up work due to her condition. The following years witnessed many periods of relapses and remissions. Sheila determined as ever, went from a walking stick to a wheelchair but never complained. In her later years she remained strong and positive in her outlook, a real role model for others in her situation. Sadly she died in December 2010, aged 74.
Sheila's family, inspired by her, decided they wanted to raise money to support others in a similar situation and to fund research to find a cure.
The challenge they have given themselves is to walk the St. Oswald's Way, 97 miles in 4 days, starting from Rothbury on 6 September and finishing at Holy Island on 9 September.
The main part of the challenge will be walked by son in law Steve Cowen who is an experienced walker. He will be joined along the way by his son Liam and Joe, Sheila's husband. His support vehicle will be provided by his wife Dianne & daughter Emma.
Anyone wishing to join in the last few miles across the causeway is more than welcome.
