Newcross Managers Theresa Thurlow and Steve Churches are running the Loch Ness Marathon for the Alzheimer’s Society
So many people can be affected by Alzheimers and it’s estimated there are currently around 800,000 people living in the UK with some form of dementia. Anyone can be affected by it and recently several members of our friends and families have been diagnosed with it.
“Both of us wanted to give something back in the way of support for the Alzheimer’s society, and the options were jumping out of a plane or running a marathon, and the marathon won! But it’s not just any marathon we’re running, it’s the Loch Ness marathon on 30 September 2012.”
Theresa has run one marathon before but this will be Steve’s first time!
“Training is going well, we’re concentrating on 2 or 3 short runs during the week and a long run at the weekend building up the miles week on week. Steve hadn’t run more than 3.5 miles in a school cross country race prior to training for this marathon but he’s now up to 14 miles, however the recovery period can be up to two days!”
Steve reckons he’ll be aiming for a time of between 4 to 4 ½ hours, but Theresa may very well slow him down!
“We’re hoping a sight of nessy might just spur us on to the end!”
Newcross Healthcare CEO and MD, Stephen and Michelle Pattrick are kindly matching all donations received up to £500 so please help us reach our target!
