Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As an active stroke survivor dedicated to my personal rehabilitation and a volunteer on the Stepping Hill Hospital stroke unit ward, I regularly meet many stroke survivors who aren't as fortunate as myself and wish to raise awareness of this often debilitating condition, raise funds to help others via stroke Association and hopefully inspire other survivors to undertake their own challenges to demonstrate that having a stroke shouldn't automatically put paid to an active lifestyle (as a previously active outdoor enthusiast, climber and cyclist recovering from stroke this last three years, this ride is very much a personal challenge and yet another milestone on the long road to recovery, as well as being a brilliant opportunity to give something back to a very worthwhile charitable cause;- The ride is approx. 130 miles around the Yorkshire Dales with around 4000m of climbing which I intend to complete over three days with a small team of supporters on my adapted recumbent 'trike' on 12th-14th May. Last year my Coast to Coast sponsored ride raised over £3000 for stroke charities.
There are more than 100,000 strokes in the U.K. each year (that is around one every five minutes). Stroke is a leading cause of disability in the UK- almost two thirds of stroke survivors leave hospital with a disability and in need of support but with limited access to essential follow-up therapies.
I hope you can support my cause
Thanks,
Steve
