Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
August 5th I will be travelling to Cornwall through the night in a hire
van with my bike (Psycho) together we are going to leave Penzance and
cycle north until either the bike breaks down beyond repair -- or I
break down?? Suffering from Osteoarthritis and having several knee
operations over the years the Fire Fighters charity has helped me with
visits to the treatment centre in Penrith - the work they do is
brilliant to enable an injured firefighter to get better quicker or
improve their condition. This is my way of saying thank you for their
help.
How did I get to this point - I always thought of doing some kind of long distance cycling trip and early January 2019 I saw a bike on Gumtree in Stockport with a view to doing the Coast to Coast route . I travelled over took it for a spin and made the 22 stone owner an offer of £385 - it was listed at £400 - he refused (he had won the bike in the works raffle) - I was sure if I offered him a couple of meat pies he would have sold at my first offer - anyway with the bike under my new ownership that summer I did my first solo Bikepacking trip, The Way of the Roses, really enjoyed it stopping the first night on a camp site and the second night wild camping - thoughts soon turned to another trip and my son Stuart suggested I did it for charity. Suffering with Osteoarthritis cycling surprising is good for the muscle around the knee, I know my limitations and didn't want to give a distance on how far I can get. Lets see what happens and hopefully the effort might prompt a few people to donate - which I thank you.
After the ride there will be some kind of website and video of the experience that might be of interest - I will be posting updates if tec and time allow during the challenge.
