Story
Alana Parker died peacefully on the 25th of January 2020 at
St Catherine's Hospice.
To know her was to love her, because she was always so
positive in life.
Alana was diagnosed with ovarian cancer five years ago and
underwent numerous treatments.
Unfortunately,
Alana's cancer spread and her condition slowly worsened, she was
admitted into St Catherine's Hospice on 8th January, the care that she received
was exemplary during those final precious weeks.
St Catherine's provides care and support in people's homes,
the community and in their hospice for adults with terminal illness, and to
their families, carers and friends. They work across an area of 1600 square
miles covering Scarborough, Ryedale, Whitby and parts of East Yorkshire.
The hospice is an amazing asset when you require its help,
but it costs £11,000 per day to fund patient care.
Our family will never be able to pay back the debt of love
and care that Alana received whilst in the hospice, but my son Dave and I are
both keen cyclists and have entered the Loch Ness Etape, this is a cycle
sportive taking place around the iconic Loch Ness on Sunday 22 August 2021
cycling 66 miles (106 km) the 360° closed-road route around the loch starts and
finishes in the Highland capital of Inverness, offering 900 m of ascent. There
is a timed King of the Mountain stage, with a 4.8 mile (9 km) climb gaining 380
m in height with a gradient reaching 12% at times. A record 5600 cyclists took
part in the 2019 event.
Please consider sponsoring us to compete in this challenge
to fundraise for St Catherine's, a good local cause that is close to all our
hearts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
