Story

We began this challenge on 1st May hoping that we could share our success with our dear Dad at the end of three months. Sadly this was not to be as he lost his battle with Alzheimer's on 14th June 2021. In February 2020 he had to adjust to life in a care home without our Mum who was too ill with cancer to look after him. Then COVID-19 came along and restrictions and isolation brought confusion and loneliness. Barbara and I explained things as best we could but the hardest thing was telling him that Mum had died on 31st July.

The past year has been tough for everyone but coronavirus has been devastating for people affected by dementia and continues to disrupt lives. Our visits were restricted, often allowing just one of us to be his visitor. As his twin daughters this was hard to explain to him. We are left feeling valuable time with our Dad has been lost forever.

So that's why I'm taking on Step Up for Dementia. Target - 850,000 steps in 3 months. We enjoyed our walks together so much we are now trying to repeat the challenge! Please donate to support me and ensure Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most.

Final Total: Margaret 890,451 steps
Round Two: Margaret 858,663 steps in three months and one week!  Over 700 miles all together!
