Story
I wasn't familiar with Parkinson's disease until my mom was diagnosed in the fall of 2016 at the age of 58. While this past year has been challenge for many, this year has been particularly hard for her and my family as her disease has aggressively progressed. The changes to her body and brain have been heartbreaking.
My sister and I have leaned heavily on the Parkinson's Foundation for education, guidance and support. In addition to advancing research, the Parkinson's Foundation provides free resources to PD patients and their families. We've participated in their different informational webinar series, contacted their helpline for counseling and advice, participated in virtual fundraisers and found a community of support. That's why I'm joining the Parkinson's Champions @ Home team and raising funds and awareness.
April is Parkinson's Awareness month and my mom's birthday month. On April 16th she will be 63, so we are asking for donations of $16.63 to help raise funds for awareness for PD. And join us April 11th for a special 5K for World Parkinson's Day. Run/Walk/Jog 3.12 miles in your neighborhood, then post a selfie with the tag #stepsforsharon to show your support!
Every dollar raised and mile run will help beat Parkinson's and allow this wonderful organization to continue to be a provider to so many.
