Story
In Africa, the halting of tourism is threatening many peoples livelihoods and the continents iconic wildlife. Rangers are the first line of defence to protect endangered specialises but in many places, there is no longer the funding for them.
Steppes Travel is proud to be joining the African Travel Industry in raising funds to support African Rangers and wildlife by joining #Ride4Rangers. Together we are hoping to raise funds to support African rangers and wildlife by cumulatively riding the equivalent of circumnavigating Africa - 30,000 km - starting with a cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) on 15th August. Join us for all or part of LEJOG or take part virtually and clock up your distance on Strava! Our very own ultra-endurance cyclist Rob Gardiner has been busy planning the LEJOG route so if you would like to join the ride and have questions get in touch!
All funds raised will go towards supporting the salaries and deployment of African Rangers during this crisis. Tusk is aiming to support 5,000 rangers over the next 6-9 months and has been established with generous match-funding, doubling the impact of every penny given.
Here's how your support could help:
- £100 could purchase a GPS enabled camera to monitor wildlife
- £200 could fund a Lion Guard Rangers salary for a month
- £250 could provide materials needed to build a predator-proof livestock enclosure
- £500 could sponsor a 4-man anti-poaching team in the field for a month.
