On the 12th October  I'm taking part in Peterborough Great Eastern Run (a half marathon) . 

I'm doing this to raise money for a The Lily Foundation and here is why.....

In April 2012 my friend Bob's little boy Jacob died at just 16 months from Leigh's which is a Mitochondrial Disease. 

Jacob suffered from complex epilepsy and global developmental delay for half of his short life and it took 5 months to get a diagnosis of what was wrong. When the Doctors told his parents he had Leigh's they never imagined that the next words would be "we are sorry there is no treatment and no cure and it is unlikely your son will see his second birthday"

Jacob died just a few months later. His family were and still are devastated.

Mitochondrial Disease is more common than you think. Every 20 minutes a child is born who will develop Mitochondrial Disease by the age of 16.  In the UK more than 10 million people suffer from diseases linked to Mitochondrial Disfunction. Yet still no treatment and no cure.

The Lily Foundation wants to change that. Set up in memory of Lily who lost her life to the condition at 8 months old, they raise money for research and support the families effected. They also raise awareness through the media, events, talks to schools and other groups.

So I'm going to do my bit to help by completing  a half marathon.  I ask that if you can, please donate as much as you can to help me help The Lily Foundation in memory of Jacob. With our help, one day parents like Bob and Claire can have hope and children like Jacob will live a long and happy life.
