Story
Thanks for looking at my sponsor page. I'm going to be attempting to complete my first-ever 100-mile bike ride at the ripe old age of 67 - crazy or what? I've never ridden a bike anything like that far before, but by riding in the London-Surrey 100-mile ride on 31st July I'm hoping to raise as much as I can for the British Heart Foundation.
Many of my friends will know about my struggles with sick sinus syndrome a few years ago, which took me from running the London Marathon one year to being unable to jog slowly for a few minutes the next year. Thanks to the cardiac team at St George's NHS Hospital in Tooting, I was fitted with a pacemaker which completely turned my life around and has allowed me to do all my favourite sports and everyday activities, which I hope to continue for a good many years into the future.
Research into various aspects of heart disease is ongoing and expensive. The British Heart Foundation is the biggest funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. It helps scientists to undertake pioneering research into many different heart conditions, their diagnosis and treatment, including coronary heart disease and angina, heart failure, cardiomyopathies and congenital heart conditions.
Most people will know someone who has either died or suffered life-limiting illness as a result of a heart condition. By giving generously to the BHF, you can contribute to research which, to put it quite bluntly, saves lives as it has saved mine.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
