Story
Sadly on the 2nd July, our Dad passed away peacefully at Blackrod House Care Home.
Alan Tonge was 91yrs old and was suffering from Alzheimer’s & had had a bad fall breaking his femur a couple of months ago, from which he struggled to recover from surgery. He also had a couple of bad chest infections during this time which was all too much for him.
He spent a month on end of life care which was hard for his family to see & whilst his vital organs were really strong he had lost the fighting spirit we all his sons came to take for granted over our lifetime.
Dad was an avid gardener in his active years and loved his roses & vegetable plot. He was also fond of exotic trees, some of which are still growing strongly at the family home in Grosvenor St - However he was not a huge fan of cut flowers & he wouldn’t have wanted to see people sending flowers at his funeral
We decided to set up a just giving page for people who may want to give a little something to help with research into alzheimers - Dad was an avid supporter himself after nursing Mum for many years before she went into Mill View Care home what’re she still lives & the disease has advanced to an extent that she has lost all her memory & is in need of 24/7 care - she sadly has no idea who her soulmate is now, and after 70 years of them being together it is so sad!
Any donations would be greatly received by Alzheimer Research UK - a charity our family will continue to support, so that future generations may be spared the heartache of losing our loved ones before they’ve left this wonderful earth & life
