We Support families of disabled children to improve social engagement, make memories

Story

My niece Kara is a special little girl who continues to light up my world as an uncle! She shows me strength and courage while laughing and smiling even when she is in pain! She has Cerebral palsy and other conditions but she always surprises us at just how much she learns and grows.I am one very proud uncle. I would like to raise money for the special lioness because they provide support to so many families like my Kara’s family that isn’t available anywhere else. They help at her specialist school Sunningdale and help with medical support. They help create memories that can last forever!

As a trusted charitable organisation founded in 2017, we, as two mums of children with life limiting conditions and profound disabilities found that we had no-where to turn for honest advice for products, medical issues, and found this journey utterly lonely and exhausting. So, after meeting through a Portage sensory group, we realised that we had something to offer other families and that's where our journey began.

Over the years, we have strived to become a social, friendly, welcoming, slightly bonkers place for parent/carers to come and we can share our knowledge and contacts that we have built up over the years, and our main goal is to not only help create strong friendships for other parent/carers but for their children too. We have a passion for fundraising to give these families one-off experiences, filled with fun and laughter to make life-long memories, particularly as most of our children have a short life expectancy, so we believe we should cram in as many memories as possible, while our children are well enough to experience them!

I will be running the Great North Run 2022 on 11th September. I would like to raise money for this charity that makes a massive difference in Sunderland. Please give what you can.

Lots of love!

We are a parent led group (we are 2 mums with children of our own with life limiting diseases) created for parent/carers living with a child with special educational needs and disabilities based in the North East of England. We have set up a local community group where we offer weekly support groups, holiday play groups, parties and a Facebook group for communications, sharing information and product finds and hacks. Giving families a safe place to discuss their child, ask questions and enable families living outside of our local area an opportunity to still connect with other families in similar situations, but primarily to reduce the loneliness and isolation SEND parent carers feel in their journey. During the school holidays we host play and craft days for our families, to give them somewhere safe and accessible to go and explore the world around them and hopefully enable some form of socialisation with other families in the same situation and allow siblings to interact with other siblings – again going through the same journey. We host parties throughout the year, simply because children like ours don’t get invited to birthday parties or celebrations, so we are determined to throw parties in their honour and give them an experience every child should have. We arrange accessible days out, activities which would normally be socially difficult and create one-off memorable money can't buy trips.
