Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm Steve - lifelong Spurs fan, dad of two football mad boys and cardiac arrest survivor!
In July 2019 I was out for a routine training run near my home in Knaresborough when I collapsed at the side of the road, suffering a cardiac arrest. I am very lucky to have been found by a passerby who had recently done a refresher in CPR. His instant actions - along with a paramedic that quickly arrived on the scene with a defibrillator - ultimately saved my life that day. After being airlifted to LGI I was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition that I had unknowingly been living with since birth. A couple of weeks later I underwent open heart surgery to fix the problem and after a period of recovery I'm forever grateful to be able to continue living a normal life again.
I'm really excited to be able to represent Yorkshire Spurs in this match against a group of legends that I've grown up watching. I'm also very grateful to Yorkshire Spurs for choosing Children's Heart Surgery Fund as a charity partner alongside JE3 Foundation. The CHSF raise vital funds to support equipment purchases and research for the Congenital Heart Unit at Leeds General Infirmary as well as supporting child and adult congenital heart patients, such as myself, and their families across the Yorkshire region. More details on the charity can be found at the link below:
