Team: Remembering Aidan Pond
Hi Everyone. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Stockholm Marathon on 31st May 2014 in memory of my nephew, Aidan Pond.
Aidan was unfortunately diagnosed with a complex and incurable case of Mitochondrial disease, which is a progressive and debilitating disease that, in his case, affected his muscles. He passed away, aged 19 months, on 1st March 2014 after spending 4 months in hospital.
Before he was admitted to hospital, Aidan was offered a place at the School for Parents at the Dame Vera Lynn Trust, Ingfield Manor, and in the words of Aidan's Mum, "This was the most inspirational place I have ever been to. It is a place where they work with you and the child (all of whom have motor learning disabilities), teaching you how to enrich your child's life and how to do "normal" things with them using conductive education. Sadly, Aidan only attended one session before he fell seriously ill, but one session was all it took for us to see the incredible work the team there do."
The Dame Vera Lynn Trust rely solely on charitable donations and fundraising.
This will be my fourth marathon & I will be hoping to take at least 15 minutes off my previous best time of 3 hours 57 minutes. So please dig deep for a cause that means a lot to me!
