Story
I have decided to run the London Marathon in memory of my Mum’s twin brother, also known as Stephen, who suffered from Muscular Dystrophy and passed away aged only 18. Stephen sadly spent most of his life in a wheelchair due to the degenerative condition, however despite this I am often reminded that he accepted his condition with such dignity, always managed to smile and adored his dog, Patch.
Stephen lived with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which leads to the progressive degeneration of the body’s muscular system, eventually affecting the heart and cardiovascular systems. Despite modern research, the average life expectancy is only in the late 20’s.
Hopefully, with the money we raise and together with support from Muscular Dystrophy UK, we can contribute towards future research & development and provide vital assistance to families living with the degenerative condition.
Stephen was loved & adored by many and a significant loss to my Mum and the McGivern family. Thank you for donating and supporting Stephen’s legacy.
