We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.  I have chosen the RNLI because of the good work they do making it safer for people like me to do a trip like this.  They provide 24-hour lifeboats and seasonal lifeguards dedicated to saving lives at sea as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales. The RNLI total running costs were £147.7M in 2009. For every £1 spent 2009, 84p was on operations and 16p was on generating voluntary income. Their lifesavers need and deserve the right equipment and craft to carry out rescues.  If you donate, you money could go towards :

Crew kit costs

  • gloves - £16
  • yellow wellies - £42
  • inshore lifeboat drysuit - £319

Station direct costs (2009 average)

  • all-weather station £300,000
  • inshore station - £90,000
  • full-time Thames stations - £640,000

Fleet costs

  • Lifeguards inshore rescue boat - £9,500
  • D class inshore lifeboat - £35,000
  • B class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat - £165,000
  • refit of Severn class all-weather lifeboat - £255,000
  • Tamar class all-weather lifeboat - £2.7M

More about my trip.....

The opportunity arose to be able to make this trip when I was made redundant after being employed in Local Government for 32 years. So this is a chance to not only to achieve a long term dream but to regain some of my self belief and confidence which has been knocked by recent experiences. If I ever write a book about this I'll probably call it "castoff" because in a word its both the problem and the cure.

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
