TACKLING THE HORSESHOE.
On July the 4th we’ll embark on our annual cycle challenge.
This year we’ll be heading to Llangollen to take on the Horseshoe Pass, it is one of the longest hills in the area, lasting a leg-zapping 4 miles and is also officially listed as one of the 100 greatest climbs in the UK.
Knowing this, you’d think our team of finely tuned athletes would have been training hard for months in preparation! In reality, our team of middle-aged men have been squeezing into their lycra and pootling around eating cakes in coffee shops and having the odd pint if they managed to find any pubs open…So wish us luck!
Our 65 mile loop will begin at Deeside Cereals and head along the River Dee to Saltney, we’ll pass through Broughton and arrive in Rossett for our warm up hill in Marford. From here we go into Llay before our first real challenge. We will climb up to Bwlchgwyn, the highest village in Wales… Then keep going up to World’s End, descend into Llangollen then tackle the brutal Horseshoe. The return leg is thankfully (almost) all downhill, we’ll pass through Loggerheads and Gwernaffield on our way back to Deeside.
Last year your generosity helped us raise £1500 for St Kentigerns Hospice.
This year the charity we are hoping to raise money for is North Wales Superkids. A local charity based in Flint, which over the last 22 years has helped disadvantaged children and young people across the region who are struggling through financial hardship, domestic violence, health, substance misuse or such other social and economic factors which are excluding them from society in North Wales.
Donations are needed now more than ever, after the last 12 months where the Covid-19 pandemic has affected so many more people is so many different ways.
If you’d like to support us by donating to our cause, please do, no matter how small, it all helps.
Thank you for supporting us,
Team Deeside Cereals. x
