Story

Some people may recollect that in September 2020 it had been my intention to trek across part of the Great Wall of China, however like many other things the global Covid pandemic put paid to that!

Now instead in June 2024 I intend to cycle from London to Amsterdam as part of group in support of the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and in tribute to my daughter Abigail who we tragically lost in 2018.

As many know Abigail had endured a life of ill health, but despite her many battles she always lived life to the full. Sadly at the end of October 2018, aged 13, she unexpectedly passed away. The way Abigail lived her life inspired others with her courage, bravery, determination and positive attitude.

Abigail knew first-hand the importance of Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and over the years had enjoyed supporting them in their fundraising efforts and raising awareness of their cause.

The London to Amsterdam Cycle will cover approximately 335 miles over 4 days, travelling through the Kent countryside before heading over the Channel to Calais. From there, we head to Bruges, thereafter Breda and then finally Amsterdam! Throughout I will be looking push my boundaries whilst taking in the scenery and historic landmarks along the way.

My endeavours will go some way to support the work of the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity which helps fund enhanced equipment and services at The Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. This includes:

  • Latest medical equipment - to help doctors, nurses and surgeons treat our children;
  • Innovative play programmes - that help to distract, teach and treat children during their stay;
  • Family support services - that care for parents, families and carers during difficult times;
  • Ground breaking paediatric research - to help future generations of Scotland’s children.

The projects funded aim to enhance the care of the 168,000 babies, children and young people from Scotland and beyond who are treated each year at the hospital.

The charity needs all our support to continue to provide world class care for Scotland's sick children for years to come.
