Story
I am sad to share the news that my Uncle Dave recently passed away from his 8-1/2 year battle with Leukaemia & Lymphoma. He was just 60 years old and will be missed by everyone who met him. I would like to thank you all for contributing towards raising almost £5000 from my previous three marathons for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
For some reason, I never imagined running without my Uncle Dave being here, seeing how much money we were raising for his favourite charity.
The fact is, he is still here, just from a better view in the sky, now in no more pain from the cruel disease that is cancer. Maybe it is fitting then that my main race for the 2012 season will be my hardest test yet of what the human body and spirit can endure and ultimately achieve.
Leadville, known as the "Race across the Sky" is a 100 mile footrace of extreme Colorado Rockies terrain — from elevations of 9,200 to 12,600 feet. A 42% completion rate tells you, finishing is the only goal. It will be my first 100 mile race and I'm going for it at the deep end.
Please help me raise another £5000 in memory and celebration of my Uncle. He never complained once about his health and continued to crack his unique jokes all the way to the finish line, making everyone else laugh and smile. That was just the type of man he was and will always be remembered as being. I am proud that I can always call him my Uncle.
I love you Uncle Dave, RIP.
