Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those who know me know I smushed my knee up in June, so while running is still some way away, I can certainly walk, and have challenged myself to walk 50k during 18th-26th September.

JCWI do fantastic work in trying to make this place a safe haven for anyone looking to move here for a better life, this was an option for my grandparents in the 40s and it should be an option for anyone now. The current hard right Tory Government would rather break international law at Sea than provide for people who just want a safe, sound and happy life. Your donations to the JCWI will help them continue their work to combat the government on their hostile environment and improve lives of migrants.

At times like these, it can be hard to know where to start or what to do. I’ve taken on the People Move challenge because it’s a practical way to take action – every penny raised will support JCWI’s work fighting for the rights of migrants, and for a more just society.

£10 could cover the cost of an asylum seeker’s public transport for an appeal hearing.
£20 could contribute to the cost of running JCWI’s helpline for undocumented migrants – providing free legal advice to people who may have spent years too afraid to seek help due to the Hostile Environment
£30 could help pay for a training session for grassroots activists on how to fight for change in Parliament.
I’m so grateful for any and all donations! And if you are not able to donate right now, please could you help me spread the word by sharing this page on social media or with friends or family? Together, we can do something amazing and help secure a fairer future for all of us!

The Government is completely failing migrants right now. People have always moved, I've moved 3 times in the last 18 months! And each time I had a community to welcome me, and I feel this should be the right of everyone, not just people who happened to be born here, but the Government has created a hostile environment for migrants.

It is incredibly expensive to get the permanent right to stay in the UK – a migrant on the 10-year pathway will pay £12,937 in application fees before they secure the right to stay in the UK. This is an obscene amount of money for an already marginalised group, and just another part of the hostile environment.
Victims of the Windrush scandal are still waiting for justice, after they lost their jobs, homes and some were detained and deported. Two years after the Home Office promised to right its wrongs, very few people have seen justice. MPs said in July 2021 that the Home Office is “failing the Windrush generation again.” And I absolutely agree with them.
We need an end to the hostile environment and a system that treats us all fairly and equally. And I feel the JCWI's work will bring us closer to that!
