Everyday 104 people are diagnosed with blood cancer or a related disorder and yet only 2% of the UK population are registered as stem cell donors.
On the 7thJanuary 2018 we officially joined the register and became donors ourselves. Following this we started Jacob’s Journey in a bid to not only raise money but more importantly to raise awareness about stem cell donors and the amazing gift they can give to someone in need.
Anthony Nolan is a charity that is very close to our hearts as they provided us with hope when we thought all hope was lost. We were lucky enough to find a donor match for Jacob so that if he needed to go to transplant then we had the option available – others aren’t so lucky.
Jacob’s Journey has raised over 30k so far, £21,593 of which has went to Anthony Nolan, the rest went to support some fantastic local charities alone with Great North Hospital. Money raised for AN was enough to add another 540 donors to the register. Every extra donor increases the chances of someone finding that crucial match. This year we aim to only increase this amount of money and again increase the awareness. Please see photos of last years challenges.
This year’s challenges are as follows:
Superhero’s day 2019 - Tony Armstrong, Michael Gilmore, David Baker, Michael Banton, Paul Lunn, Jack Dixon, Trevor Ferry, Gaynor Gilchrist.
GNR 2020– Stephen Armstrong, Kirsty Armstrong, Sean Burnip, Dave Sinclair, Thomas Douglas, Dominic Pilton, Lewis Richardson, Matthew Steanson, Andrew Lavery
Thank you all for your support!
